Leading Causes of Biamp Equipment Failure

Even though our products are very reliable (they come with a five-year warranty), the reality is that all gear occasionally fails in the field. Shocking, huh? Although we’d like to say we’ve seen it all, we still get surprised once in a while. We’ve received units from desert environments that were full of sand, and units returned from bakeries that smelled like doughnuts. The majority of problems are caused by component failures. Many of these component failures are related to user error, such as inserting an audio signal that is too high, mis-wiring the unit, tripping on cables, or spilling food or drink on the unit. Automixers 101

Automatic mixers (Automixers) balance multiple sound sources based on each source’s level, quickly and dramatically adjusting the various signal levels automatically. They lower the hiss, reverberation and other extraneous noise that occur when several microphones operate simultaneously. Typically Automixers should only be used for installations with multiple microphones, and they offer the following benefits: Improved Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) by limiting the Number of Open Microphones (NOM) Improved gain before feedback by providing gain attenuation with respect to the NOM (i.e. NOM attenuation) Reduced microphone comb filtering by limiting voice pickup to a single microphone Without an Automixer With an Automixer Poor SNR with all microphones picking up ambient…

Recommended Third Party Products for use with Vocia

Although EN54 does not include explicit specifications for some network equipment, such as switches, below is a list of products that have been used in existing EN54-16 compliant Vocia installations. This is not an exhaustive list of third party products suitable for use with Vocia. Please confer with the applicable Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for your installation to identify any additional requirements. Please see our website for the most up-to-date recommendations. Presets 101

Why and when do we need presets? Presets are a quick and efficient way to recall a known configuration of one or multiple DSP blocks. The process of creating presets is the same for Audia or Nexia software. A preset resides in the layout file (.dap or .nex) and can be recalled from the Audia/Nexia software, a daVinci panel or an external trigger (Select 8, contact closure or 3rd party controller). Presets DSP blocks Two types of preset blocks are available to the designer: Preset button blockUse a preset button to recall the preset from Audia/Nexia software, a daVinci panel or a third party controller.Below is an example of a…
